My thanks to the WELKS committee for this invitation and to my two very efficient stewards. I had
a super entry of Deerhounds and was delighted with the overall quality. I was looking for a
shapely Deerhound with a good tuck to complement the outline, a typical head and expression
and a good mover- not only sound but with that distinctive light gait. I was lucky to find these in
most of my winners. I was concerned that many hounds are sadly lacking in forechest. Some I
have admired from ringside disappointed here. Some rather flat toplines. The underline with a
good depth of chest and carry back of ribs followed by a good tuck is a very important feature of
the Deerhound. This was lacking in some otherwise nice hounds.
MPD (5,1a) 1 Phillips, All Guns Blazing For Ladygrove. V shapely pup of nice type. Masculine but
not heavy head carried well. Good neck runs into well laid shoulder with good return of upper arm.
Nice depth of chest running back to a good tuck followed by well angulated hind quarters with
good width of thigh. Topline a little overdone at present but this should settle as he grows. Lovely
profile movement and beautifully shown by his handler.BPD. 2 Owen & Brodie’s, Wolfcastle Draig.
A heavier dog, still v shapely but with more bone and a stroger head. Neat high set ears & a dark
eye. Good depth of chest and topline & nice hind quarters. Good profile movement but needs to
settle coming & going. 3 Bye’s, Nixophel Greyflint.
PD (3,2) 1 Parsons & Mckinnon’s, Claonaiglen Lochan. Nice youngster with a typical head and
lovely dark eye. Good lay of shoulder and fair return, adequate depth of chest with good topline
and underline and well angulated hind quarters. Really lovely mover with a good length of stride
                  and a light footfall.
JD (9,5) 1 Peach’s, Kilbourne Hamlet. Quality youngster who has good proportions and lovely
outline with a good head & front, straight legs, good pasterns & feet. Lovely depth of chest, good
carry back of ribs and nice tuck. He has a lovely topline running into a drooping croup with a good
tail. Strong hindquarters well angulated and with good width between hind legs. A good mover
with lovely profile movement, a most promising hound. 2 Meer’s, Kilbourne Harvey at Lordswell.
Another v nice typical hound & brother to the winner. He has a lovely head & expression, good
shoulder and topline. Slightly smaller than winner and not quite the bend of stifle but still a nice
                  dog & a happy mover! 3 LLewllyn’s Matahari Menjangen.
PGD (6,1) 1 Taylor’s, Kilbourne James Dene to Ormandstar. Mature 3 yr dog with a nice outline,

outline and good balance. Good head on good length of neck runs into fair shoulder& front.
Straight front legs. Nice topline going into good croup complimented by a very pleasing underline
and nice hind quarters. He was shown well and moved well. 2 Barter’s, Brutus Fraxinus of

judge an exceptional dog and this was one. A truly lovely hound, beautifully balanced and totally
typical. He has a good head with a lovely expression and a body where everything just flows from
one part into the next. Good neck, lovely topline and good drooping croup. V good shoulder with
good return of upper arm and lovely depth of chest. Good underline and lovely hindquarters with

Gille of Beardswood. Another quality hound, a little larger and longer, with a lovely outline. Would
like more face furnishings but he is a lovely dog. Lovely lay back of shoulder and good return of
upper arm, good topline, croup and hind quarters. He moved well and was well shown. 3 Phillips &

MPB (7,2) 1 Bond’s Regalflight Tana. V curvaceous baby only 2 days over 6 months. This puppy is
such a typical Deerhound pup with the sweetest head and expression and the tightest of rose
ears. Lovely shoulder and upper arm, adequate forechest, slightly overdone topline, as the minor
dog puppy, but this should settle as she grows, lovely depth and fall away. She was a little
reticent doing her triangle but relaxed trotting round and showed sound typical movement. 2
